Kyle O’Reilly’s big push was already planned for a long time

Kyle O’Reilly won the Gauntlet Eliminator match in the main event of last week’s NXT. Due to this, he will be challenging for the NXT Championship at NXT TakeOver. This certainly surprised fans as he has been a tag team competitor for a long time. His last match as a singles competitor was at a Progress show in 2018.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and a recent outbreak in NXT, WWE had to change plans and fans have been wondering whether this included the title picture.

During a teleconference to hype NXT TakeOver: 31, Triple H seemingly confirmed what fans thought. He discussed Kyle O’Reilly receiving the title shot. He revealed that the company planned on giving O’Reilly a huge push for a long time.

He said that it “may have” been done earlier than initially planned due to the recent COVID-19 outbreak. He then praised O’Reilly for his in-ring skills.

The NXT TakeOver match will certainly be a great one.
