Trish Stratus, the WWE Hall of Famer, holds an esteemed position as one of the most iconic and beloved female Superstars in the history of the company. Her contributions to the professional wrestling industry are immeasurable and have left an indelible mark on the sport. However, it may come as a surprise that not everyone was thrilled when Stratus and her fellow legend, Lita, main evented Monday Night RAW in 2004.

During that era, female WWE talents were often relegated to the role of mere eye candy, serving as accessories to the male-dominated storylines. Nevertheless, Stratus shattered barriers and paved the way for future female talents with her incredible athleticism, in-ring skills, and compelling storylines.

The rivalry and friendship between Stratus and Lita remains a topic of conversation among wrestling fans to this day. Their groundbreaking match on the December 6, 2004 episode of RAW changed the game in numerous ways, proving that women could excel in the main event spotlight.

Jim Ross, a WWE Hall of Famer and renowned commentator, recently spoke about the reception to Stratus and Lita headlining RAW in 2004 during an interview on Grilling JR. He revealed that there were quite a few male WWE talents who were furious about this decision.

Ross emphasized the significance of Stratus and Lita being the first females to main event RAW, acknowledging that it was a much bigger deal than people give it credit for, even in present times. However, he also shared that there were many male wrestlers backstage who were angered by the announcement.

Ross recalled the reaction of one unnamed wrestler who exclaimed, “What the hell is going on here?” This sentiment echoed the frustration felt by those wrestlers who believed that the main event spot should be reserved exclusively for men. However, Ross stood firm in his support for Stratus and Lita, asserting that they deserved the opportunity and delivered a memorable performance that proved their worthiness.
