Latest on WWE using the Broken Matt Hardy Gimmick, Anthem’s response

As we noted before WWE has been heavily teasing the arrival of Matt Hardy’s broken gimmick since his loss to Bray Wyatt during the latest episode of Raw.

Since reports suggest that Matt is very close to acquiring the rights of the Broken Matt Hardy gimmick, it’s expected that we’ll actually see it on the WWE Programming very soon.

However, if reports from Sports Illustrated are to be believed, we may see a different version of the broken gimmick in WWE compared to what we saw on Impact.

According to the site, WWE is creating their own new character for the former Hardcore Champion, though it will still be similar to what we have seen.

Regarding Anthem Sports’ stand on this, the site notes that Hardy and Anthem have not talked recently about the ownership of the character.

When SI reached out Anthem for a comment on the situation, Impact President Ed Nordholm issued the following statement:

“We have seen the character development and will be interested to see where they take the concept. Our new talent agreements all incorporate language that allow talent to continue to use their IMPACT persona after they leave the company. We are working with our legal team to amend our existing agreements to extend this to all of our current and former talent.”
