Perhaps Mandy Rose’s next job could be as an XFL cheerleader? The XFL has a reputation for being a cursed entity, having failed in its two previous launches in the past two decades. However, it returned this month, with Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson at the helm, along with his partners. While it is a legitimate league, it is not as big as the NFL, and therefore, the pay for XFL players is significantly lower.

The XFL has a unique salary system that connects player earnings to their performance on the field. According to Kevin Seifert of ESPN, XFL players are projected to earn around $60,000 for the entire season. Most contracts include a weekly payment of $5,000, plus a $1,000 bonus for every victory.

On February 21, 2023, Seifert reported that the XFL executives, Whaley and Marc Ross, proposed offering players a weekly salary of $5,000, with a $1,000 bonus for every win. With additional potential bonuses, the average player could earn about $60,000 from training camp until the end of the season. Additionally, the XFL offers a benefits package valued at approximately $20,000, including accommodation and two meals per day during the season.

“Whaley and executive vice president of football operations Marc Ross have pitched agents on deals that would pay players $5,000 per week with a $1,000 bonus per win. Including other potential bonuses, the average player would be estimated to earn about $60,000 from training camp through the end of the season. The XFL also valued its benefits package as worth an additional $20,000, in addition to paying for housing and two meals a day during the season.”

Despite the significantly lower salary, the XFL aims to provide a platform for exceptional players to showcase their skills and potentially attract the attention of NFL teams. For context, in 2023, NFL practice squad players will earn a minimum of $12,000 per week, and the minimum salary for NFL players on the active roster will be $750,000.
