Sugar Ray’s frontman, Mark McGrath, recently took to social media and settled a long-standing debate about a Kid Rock’s claim in his 2001 song ‘Cocky.’
The discussion originates from a line in Rock’s song from his album ‘Cocky,’ where he compares his popularity with women to that of Mark. The specific lyric, ‘Got more money than Matchbox Twenty / Get more a** than Mark McGrath,’ has sparked curiosity among fans for over two decades.
It has been noted that the debate over Rock’s claim of getting more attention from women than McGrath began with Rock Feed’s tweet questioning its validity. This led to popular YouTuber Finn McKenty tagging McGrath and suggesting he was the one to settle this. The singer responded, saying:
“I’m going to have to confirm that he absolutely did, and extra points for rhyming a** with McGrath… Hope that clears up any confusion.”
Back in 2018, the vocalist discussed his relationship with Rock on The Woody Show, mentioning their changed friendship due to a false rumor about McGrath dating Kid’s ex-wife, Pamela Anderson. Back in 2014, he also shared an anecdote on Country 92.5 about Rock’s unchanged party lifestyle, recalling:
“I have so many stories about Kid Rock. We just did the Kid Rock Cruise a couple months ago, and he had us on there. I’m like, ‘Oh, it’s been a few years. I’m sure he’s calmed down in the partying and blah blah blah. I go up to his suite, and there’s five strippers falling out of the door. He’s in there serenading everybody with his guitar. I go, ‘Bob, I love you, man. You’ll never change.’”
I’m going to have to confirm that he absolutely did, and extra points for rhyming ass with McGrath…hope that clears up any confusion.
