Matt Cardona talks about WWE rules being nonsensical and more

Matt Cardona made his debut in AEW last week, where he saved his old friend Cody Rhodes. He spent several years in WWE (as Zack Ryder) and is aware of how the company functions.

Cardona spoke on Busted Open Radio, where he was asked about AEW referees not following the rules. This topic has been addressed in the past as well. Cardona revealed he did not notice these incidents and then mentioned how WWE referees have several rules that fans are unaware of. It makes no sense to him.

“I haven’t really noticed it.  I think in WWE, their officials have rules that the fans don’t even know about.  So, what’s the point of having all these rules if the fans don’t even know what’s going on?  I’m fine with the officiating going on in AEW.  I think the referees need to have authority and I think they do there.”

Cardona signed a five-appearance deal with AEW. He revealed it was weird for him to introduce himself to people he has seen on television and knew for a long time. He felt like a new kid in the AEW locker room. He also stated that he felt welcomed by the locker room with open arms.

“For me, I was nervous. I was walking in there like the new kid in school. All these people, whether I saw them wrestle or I saw them on social media, I knew everybody but I didn’t really know them. It was weird introducing myself to these people who I know. Some people I watched wrestle for years. Everyone was very welcoming and very inviting. They made me feel like I was there the whole time.”
