Popular actor Ben Affleck is having a tough time dealing with his split from Jennifer Lopez, so he probably didn’t need his Boston BFF Matt Damon accidentally shading him in the process. The 53-year-old actor was just trying to explain why the tabloids weren’t interested in his life like they were with Ben via Yahoo.
“I’ve been really lucky in that way … especially when I look at Casey’s brother, Ben. I can’t imagine living under that kind of scrutiny,” he told the Radio Times Podcast on August 6. Damon is currently promoting his Apple TV+ movie, The Instigators, with Casey Affleck, so that’s why Ben’s name was dropped in the conversation.
“And it’s been like that for 25 years and we’ve had parallel careers in a lot of ways and so I’m fortunate to have been kind of excused from that part of [it],” Damon added. He believes that being the “guy who’s married” was a “boring” narrative for the tabloids.
“What would sell those things were scandal and sex and all that stuff … and as long as you didn’t do any of that stuff it wasn’t really worth their time to wait to take your picture and so I ended up kind of getting left alone,” he said. “Luckily fell in love with someone who was not in the business who would tolerate that side of it and that really helped me.” Whoops! He accidentally criticized Ben’s life which has been filled with addiction, marriages, and an alleged affair.
Damon was reportedly not a fan of his Good Will Hunting co-star reuniting with Lopez in 2021 as he lived through the first Bennifer breakup. “Matt tried to warn Ben when he got back together with J.Lo that this could happen,” an insider revealed to the Daily Mail.
“Matt was there to help Ben get it together after their first split and he felt like this would happen again.” Damon was the pal who also advised Ben “to jump in and focus on his work” after his marriage to J.Lo unraveled earlier this year.
