According to Forbes, Cassidy Hutchinson, a former White House aide from the Trump era, has accused Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) of making suggestive comments and engaging in inappropriate behavior toward her. Hutchinson detailed these allegations in her new book, which also contains other accounts of inappropriate conduct involving men in Trump’s orbit.
In one instance, Hutchinson claims that Gaetz grazed her chin with his thumb and asked if anyone had ever told her she’s a “national treasure.” She recounted this incident on MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow show ahead of her book’s release.
Hutchinson also described an encounter at Camp David, where Gaetz repeatedly asked her to escort him back to her cabin, even though all the cabins were clearly marked, and it was impossible to get lost. Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.), who was allegedly present during this incident, reportedly told Gaetz to “get a life.”
Gaetz responded to these allegations by claiming he didn’t remember the incidents and asserting that he had briefly dated Hutchinson years ago, parting amicably and remaining friends. He accused Hutchinson of dishonestly targeting people for fame and book sales.
Hutchinson acknowledged that she was friends with Gaetz but emphasized that she would never date him, asserting that she has higher standards for men. She criticized Gaetz as a “very unserious politician” who prioritizes sound bites over passing legislation.
Hutchinson’s book also contains other allegations, including one against former Trump lawyer Rudy Giuliani, whom she accused of groping her on January 6, 2021. Giuliani has denied the claims. Hutchinson also alleged that former House Speaker John Boehner commented on her appearance and that Donald Trump suggested she get blonde highlights, which she claimed she did.
