Matt Riddle releases video admitting to affair; denies sexual assault allegations

During the #SpeakingOut movement, Matt Riddle was among the many wrestlers mentioned. He was accused of sexual assault by Candy Cartwright. Riddle earlier released a public statement denying the allegations, through his attorney. Cartwright recently released photographic evidence, prompting Riddle to speak up.

Riddle took to Twitter and posted a video on Wednesday morning, where he addressed the allegations against him. He denied all the allegations made by Cartwright. However, he admitted to having an affair with her. He talked about having depression due to cheating on his wife and did not talk about it in a public capacity as it was embarrassing for him.

However, Riddle made it clear he did not sexually assault anyone and he stuck with the story that Candy Cartwright is a stalker.

“I’m going to make this quick. I have never in my entire life sexually assaulted a man, woman, or anybody and that includes Samantha Tavell– Candy Cartwright. I never sexually assaulted you.”

“That story about the van trip and the driver being asleep and me forcing you to do stuff and hop on, whatever it’s a complete lie — a fabricated story because you’re still mad. You know why you’re still mad? Because yes — we had an affair. You’ve got plenty of evidence of that. You know what? I never denied it because it happened. Do I want to talk about it? Do I want to share it? No, it’s embarrassing because I feel like a real piece of crap for cheating on my wife.”

Riddle said “we had a relationship, we had a fling.” He admitted to getting depressed as he hid the affair from his wife and also from his friends. He revealed he blocked Cartwright on social media but she kept on messaging him. He got a new phone number, but she found him.

He then said she showed up at hotels where he was staying and that she inquired of his friends where he was. He then said: “At this point you have to realize if you don’t think you’re stalking me or harassing me you’re crazy.”
