Donald Trump is reportedly considering bringing Kellyanne Conway back into his campaign to address its recent struggles. Conway is regarded as a trusted advisor by both Trump and Melania Trump, who is reportedly advocating for her return due to her familiarity and experience amidst new faces in the campaign. Lara Trump, co-chair of the Republican National Committee and Eric Trump’s wife, is also reportedly supporting the idea to reinvigorate the campaign following Kamala Harris’ strong start after Joe Biden’s unexpected departure.
According to Tara Palmeri in Puck, Trump values the input of influential women, noting that he listens to figures like Hope Hicks and Brooke Rollins. The discussion about Conway’s return gained traction following a social media post of a photo of Conway with Trump in New Jersey on August 2. This moment was seen as a signal of Conway’s potential return to the campaign.
However, Puck reports a divided opinion within Trump’s campaign about whether Conway should resume a role similar to her 2016 position. Conway has made efforts to mend relations with J.D. Vance, Trump’s running mate, despite initially expressing a preference for Marco Rubio during the vice-presidential selection process. She has recently shown support for Vance publicly, including praising his recent public appearance.
On tp of that, Puck notes that Conway’s status as a registered foreign agent for a Ukrainian oligarch, who pays her $50,000 a month, might raise concerns among critics about potential conflicts of interest in her involvement with Trump’s campaign.
