Mickie James finally opens up about controversial loss to Asuka on RAW

In this week’s episode of WWE RAW, Mickie James’ match against Asuka came to a controversial end. Asuka put James in an Asuka Lock, only for Mickie to apparently reverse it into a pinning position. However, the referee suddenly called an end to the match, leaving everyone confused.

The ending of the match startled James as well, and WWE has since provided an explanation for why the match came to an end. However, the explanation still left unanswered questions.

“Realizing that this could be her last chance at a championship, Mickie James left it all in the ring against The Empress of Tomorrow. But although Mickie James was ready for Asuka, Asuka was also ready for her. The Raw Women’s Champion locked on the Asuka Lock, and despite James’ best efforts to fight out, the referee ruled her unable to continue and awarded the match to Asuka.”

James appeared on this week’s episode of WWE’s The Bump. There, she talked about the controversial ending in her match against Asuka.

“I’m heartbroken. I can’t even watch it, I’m so devastated. I pinned her. I just don’t understand it.”

While admitting she was heartbroken, James then praised the RAW Women’s Champion.
“I rate Asuka up there with the best, and I’ve always said that. She will go down in WWE history as one of the greatest female competitors of all time. It’s not just because of her in-ring ability. It’s her mystique character and the way she presents herself. Asuka is everything that she says she is. I find her to be very empowering and very timeless. She’s definitely up there with the rest of them.”
