Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Lightweight finishers Dan Hooker and Claudio Puelles squared off tonight (Saturday, Nov. 12, 2022) on the main card of UFC 281 from Madison Square Garden in New York City, New York.
Hooker entered the 155-pound fight having lost four of his previous five fights (being finished three times); however, “Hangman” was locked inside the cage with killers such as Islam Makhachev, Dustin Poirer, and Michael Chandler, among others. Meanwhile, Puelles had won five straight races, including back-to-back kneebar finishes, but the biggest “name” on his resume was Clay Guida.
Hooker started the action with some low kicks from both sides, with Puelles doing his best to check the majority, if not all, of them. He went upstairs, but Puelles stopped him. He pawed a jab to warm up, but didn’t throw a strike in the first two minutes. He didn’t have to, though, because he snagged Hooker’s ankle with a sweet Imanari roll. Hooker attempted to pull his foot free, and there was a mad dash, but Hooker was caught in a heel hook.
