A report recently revealed that Rey Mysterio is currently not under a contract with WWE and the former World Champion has been working for the company as a free agent.
Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer recently provided some more updates on the situation and also revealed why the two parties haven’t been able to reach an agreement.
Meltzer believes that Mysterio’s contract with the company expired ‘months ago’ but the promotion decided to continue the storyline between him and Seth Rollins anyway.
Regarding the reason for not signing a new contract, it’s said that the high flying star wanted a raise but Vince McMahon brought up how the business has been affected.
He mentioned how the company had to release talents due to the coronavirus pandemic. Though the officials also do not want him leaving and they are working on a new deal.
Despite the current situation, it doesn’t seem very likely that Mysterio will leave the company as it could affect the future plans for his son Dominik who is training for a wrestling career and is believed to be WWE bound once he is ready to make his debut.
