New Smackdown Women’s Champion crowned

This week’s Smackdown Live turned out to be one full of big surprises. Charlotte Flair walked out and said that she was going to prove why she deserves to compete at the main event of Wrestlemania. Asuka then came out and a match for the Smackdown Women’s Title between Asuka and Charlotte Flair took place.

This certainly was a big surprise and the crowd did not see it coming. This match was a rematch from their excellent Wrestlemania 34 encounter, where Charlotte Flair defeated Asuka to end her undefeated streak. It seems history repeated itself this week as well.

Asuka gave it her all in the match but ultimately, she tapped out to the Figure 8 and Charlotte Flair became SmackDown Women’s Champion. Now it is uncertain what Asuka will do at Wrestlemania.

This also adds an interesting dynamic to the Wrestlemania main event match. We will have to wait until Wrestlemania to see who comes out on top.

I don’t mind this because Auska will get the title back in due time or they move Auska back to Raw. But they making it look like Charlotte Flair has nothing to lose an everything to gain at WM 35. This probably will also set up Charlotte Flair vs Ronda Rousey at Summerslam.

Surprised they did this since she was already going to be in a title match at Mania….unless they plan on having her win both belts?

This is horrible treatment of Asuka and just another example of Flair being the Reigns/Cena or the womens division.
That said, I hope this is a sign that they are finally doing what is right and consolidating the two womens titles into one and doing the same thing with the womens title that they are doing with their tag team title as well, making it cross brand. I would also say that it almost guarantees a Becky win at Mania. It will be a Chris Jericho moment for her, winning both titles in the same night and unifying them.
