Nick’s Quick Wits-Will A Chance At Something Fresh Be Wasted?

I know I’ve talked a lot recently about how repetitive the WWE has been lately, while this past week on Raw, they set up the potential for something fresh, a match between Randy Orton and Brock Lesnar for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship sometime in the future.

Michael Cole and Brock Lesnar   Randy Orton 4

This Sunday at the Hell in a Cell Pay-Per-View there is a Hell in a Cell match between John Cena and Randy Orton with the winner becoming the number one contender for Brock Lesnar’s WWE World Heavyweight Championship. This makes the match somewhat important, but most fans don’t want to see it. They are more excited about the Dean Ambrose vs. Seth Rollins Hell in a Cell match. That match will be the match of the night, but don’t be surprised if Cena vs. Orton main events. I believe Randy Orton should win this match and here’s why.

John Cena vs. Brock Lesnar has been done before, Randy Orton vs. Brock Lesnar has not, barring one match in 2002 when Orton was a rookie. It’s a fresh matchup that would get fans interested. I would much rather see Lesnar vs. Orton than Lesnar vs. Cena yet again. It looks like the seeds are being planted for a Randy Orton face turn, which would need to happen for him to go up against Lesnar, the heel champion. Remember, Triple H was about to name Orton the challenger for SummerSlam, until Heyman came out and suggested Lesnar. Orton could use that as a form of betrayal to fuel his face turn. Orton did give Heyman an RKO on Monday, fueling both him and Lesnar wanting payback. Orton would probably be cheered because it’s well known that a large number of fans are happy about WWE having a part-time champion. Lesnar was the youngest WWE Champion in history, while Orton was the youngest World Heavyweight Champion in WWE history. It could be set-up as a battle of history’s youngest champions.

Here’s the only match they had, on a random Smackdown in 2002.

It’s speculated that Lesnar’s next match will be at the Royal Rumble pay-per-view. I say do whatever needs to be done to book him for Survivor Series, which will be held in St. Louis, Orton’s hometown. Orton would be a freshly turned face challenger and hometown hero looking to take down the beast champion. Orton would put up a fight and take a beating, Lesnar would kick out of a couple RKO’s and Orton out of one or two F5’s. Orton would then punt Lesnar knocking him out. Before he covers him, he sees Seth Rollins and ringside and goes after him. This leads to Lesnar getting up and hitting Orton with another F5 for the win. Lesnar then F5’s Seth before he attempts to cash in again, evening the score of Seth’s Night of Champions cash-in attempt. Lesnar leaves with the title and more heel heat, Orton leaves with respect and fan support, and the fans leave happy because they just saw a fresh, exciting title match.

All of this is just fantasy booking though, because you know what will happen on Sunday….

Until next time, anticipate something fresh, even though you won’t get it
