Nikki Bella Called Ex-WWE Diva ‘Really Fat’

During an episode of The Sessions, Nikki Bella revealed a regrettable incident where she had to deliver a sexist promo about Awesome Kong. In the segment, Nikki had to make a remark about not realizing Kong’s pregnancy, because she thought Kong was simply “really, really fat.” Although Nikki felt terrible after reciting these lines, she acknowledged that it was part of her job as a WWE Superstar to deliver the script provided to her.

Nikki further expressed her disappointment at not doing more to break down gender barriers during her time in WWE. She acknowledged that while some progress was made, it was challenging given the constraints of WWE’s booking. The wrestling industry itself is a tricky environment to navigate, and despite the progress, more work is needed to dismantle these barriers. Nikki concluded by stating that while she could have used her mic time to garner more reactions, it was not worth it if the material was not approved by the women in the industry.

“I remember when I had to cut a promo on [Awesome] Kong, before Brie and I had left for eleven months. And I just remember feeling like sh*t. I went with what they said on paper; it was so wrong. And I talked to Kia [Stevens / Kong] before, Kia and I even talked after. It just didn’t feel good, and I didn’t like it. I was like, I don’t want cheap pops from the crowd anymore. Especially if it’s not approved by the women.”

Nikki Bella went on to say that she could have done a lot more to tear down barriers during her time in WWE. Those barriers were still broken, but it was a difficult task with WWE’s booking. That being said, the pro wrestling business is a very tricky world to operate in.

“I could have said a lot more stuff on the mic to get these greater reactions; it was never worth it to me because we’re still telling stories, and that’s kind of how I left it the rest of my career. But then some of the stuff would be said to me on a hot mic, with not even realizing. I just remember being disappointed, like, okay, we just took five steps back. [We should have been] just tearing these barriers down, breaking them; which, we still shattered them. It just took even more work.”
