During the July 22, 2020 edition of WWE NXT on USA Network, current NXT Champion Keith Lee made the announcement that he would be relinquishing his NXT North American Championship title in order to give other wrestlers the same opportunities he has had as the Limitless one!
As WWE NXT went live on the USA Network, the show opened with William Regal stating that the NXT Champion Keith Lee wanted to address the WWE Universe, as he turned things over to Lee.
The video then flashed to Keith Lee who stated “Killer” Tim Brooks, his trainer, helped set him on this journey fifteen years ago. Lee says that blood, sweat and tears all prepare you on your way. And when opportunity struck, he became the NXT Champion in addition to the NXT North American Champion. He says that life is about opportunities and while some call him limitless, he will not be limiting others.
Lee then stated, “I will continue to defend the NXT Championship. However, at this time, I will be relinquishing the North American Championship. The caveat: as many people as possible have an opportunity to win the North American championship.”
The show cut back to William Regal, who states he loves Lee’s idea! Regal then announces that tonight a triple-threat match will be held to kick off a series of Triple-Threat Matches. The winner will advance to NXT Takeover 30 on August 22nd in a Ladder Match to crown the new NXT North American champion!
