As it was revealed tonight on NXT by Triple H, Johnny Gargano was supposed to challenge Tommaso Ciampa for the NXT Championship at NXT TakeOver: New York. Sadly, the Psycho Killer had to relinquish the belt after he had to undergo neck surgery.
The Game opened NXT tonight with the championship in hand. He revealed that Gargano was still going to fight for the title in New York, and his opponent would be revealed tonight.
A Fatal-5-Way match would take place between Adam Cole, Aleister Black, Matt Riddle, Ricochet, and NXT North American Champion Velveteen Dream. The winner would go on to face Gargano in a 2-out-of-3 Falls match at NXT TakeOver: New York.
The main event saw some incredible action between all five men, but in the end, Adam Cole picked up the win after delivering the Last Shot to Ricochet.
