NXT Star was reportedly considered to answer Bobby Roode’s US Open Challenge

We noted before how Dolph Ziggler was originally expected to answer Bobby Roode’s US Open Challenge at Royal Rumble PPV though it appears that the plans changed more than once.

According to Wrestling Observer Radio, at one point there were talks of NXT Star Adam Cole answering the Championship challenge instead of Ziggler.

These plans, however, were nixed when officials decided that it wouldn’t be a good idea for him to debut and then lose to Roode in a short match.

There is still no word on why the company decided to change the original plans involving Dolph. His absence from SmackDown this week has only complicated the things and started lots of rumors.

As seen this past Sunday night, after the plans changed both Ziggler and Cole ended up participating in the Men’s Royal Rumble match instead of the US title bout.
