Original plans for Asuka’s Wrestlemania opponent

Unfortunately for Asuka, she has no match for Wrestlemania as she lost her Smackdown Women’s Title to Charlotte Flair on this week’s Smackdown Live. This has been Vince McMahon’s idea for a long time.

This unexpected title change meant that the #1 contender fatal four-way match between Sonya Deville, Mandy Rose, Carmella, and Naomi was no longer needed, so it had to be dropped.

The Wrestling Observer Newsletter reports that Mandy Rose was going to win the match and become the #1 contender and get a rematch against Asuka at Wrestlemania.

It was uncertain whether Mandy would have won the match. The match was removed from the Wrestlemania card because “that [match] really had little interest and instead make the main event stronger.”

So now the likely plans for Asuka would be her competing in the WrestleMania Women’s Battle Royal if it is held this year.
