Would you want to step into an octagon with a UFC fighter for $12k? We hear it all the time with how much UFC fighters make. The Connor McGregor’s of the world seem to make millions, but this doesn’t always go for every fighter that steps foot into the octagon, no, not at all.
When we look at the career of Paulo Costa, it is a career that does seem like a great one. The record that Paulo boasts is an astonishing 13-2-0 with his next fight being against Luke Rockhold; the man who has recently called him out for alleged drug use.
With numbers and fights such as Paulo’s, you would imagine that there would be a good amount of money backing that. You would be very wrong, at least, earlier on in his career. It was recently noted that Paulo fought Johny Hendricks for a measly $12k. This was so absurd, that Reddit had to chime in about it.
One commenter made it very clear. They said: “Lmfao UFC was gonna make him fight 20k w/l for 5 fights, f*cking absurd. If Paulo knows his value, walid also knew 50k w/l was too low for Paulo’s star power. Seems like costa is more humble in knowing he was being robbed by walid than Figueroa though. O’Malley and paddy are the new generation of using their social media/brand value as leverage for bigger pay days from the UFC.”
This seems to check out as far as using leverage goes. This generation of fighters are becoming more and more savvy in business as they see so many before them being taken advantage of. Paulo Costa didn’t raise too much of an issue when he was offered the money, but he sure should have done so by the looks of it as far as the current checks go.
