As seen at WWE Payback, Charlotte retained her Women’s Title against Natalya but did so in controversy. The finish of the match saw Charlotte lock in the sharpshooter submission on Natalya and the referee called for the bell. Natalya never tapped it, and it appeared that it was a worked screw job finish.
The reason for the finish is due to WWE wanting to build to a rematch between the two stars at the Extreme Rules PPV. It’s rumored that their rematch will be either a submission match or an I quit match.
WWE Extreme Rules will take place on May 22, 2016 at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey. The show will air on the WWE Network and some traditional pay-per-view outlets.
