Possible reason why The Revival were finally released

The Revival were finally granted their release from WWE yesterday. They had been trying to leave the company for a long time as they were unhappy with their position in the company. It was an immediate release and they are free to go wherever they want to.

On Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer discussed some of the reasons why WWE might have finally released them. Meltzer said that possible reasons for the release of the Revival to be announced on the 10th were that it would be likely to get buried in the news since it was a Friday on top of everything else currently going on.

It could also be related to AEW just having taped up to several weeks of TV as this ensures The Revival cannot appear on AEW television “right away.” He also talks about how if AEW does sign The Revival, they can still tease their debut freely as there is no non-compete. He remarked that WWE could simply not have wanted to hold them any longer.

Due to the COVID-19 outbreak, it will be tough for them to get any work due to almost all shows being cancelled, but it is still possible for them to sign with AEW. Following their release, The Revival already started using different names.

We will have to see when they eventually make their way into AEW.
