NBC Universal recently had a presentation on Monday morning and they announced their fall schedule. It has been noted that it will see a new night for “Young Rock.”
‘Young Rock’ to go head to head with SmackDown
The series about Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s life was recently picked up for its third season. It will be moving to Friday nights beginning in November 2022. The show will be part of a one-hour comedy block on Friday nights for NBC with George Lopez’s “Lopez vs. Lopez” airing at 8 p.m. ET followed by Young Rock, which means it will go head-to-head with WWE Friday Night SmackDown on FOX.
The official press release for this section of the NBC’s schedule reads as follows:
“In November, the laughs begin with George Lopez’s family comedy “Lopez vs. Lopez” at 8 p.m., teeing up the third season of Dwayne Johnson’s bio-series “Young Rock” at 8:30 p.m.”
The upcoming season will dive deeper into Johnson’s professional wrestling career in WWE. Johnson, Joseph Lee Anderson, Stacey Leilua, Adrian Groulx, Bradley Constant, Uli Latukefu, Ana Tuisila, Fasitua Amosa, and John Tui star in the series. Ratings for the second season of the show decreased from the first season as it has averaged 2,148,000 viewers and 0.37 in the key 18-49 demo.
The WWE legend is yet to comment on the renewal as of this writing. But, Seven Bucks Vice President and former WWE head writer Brian Gewirtz took to Twitter and shared his thoughts.
“We’re BACK baby! Can’t wait to dive into Season 3 of #YoungRock! This is shaping up to be a helluva week!,” Gewirtz wrote.
It is currently unknown what the exact highlights will be when it comes to the third season. But, season two did see plenty of wrestling references with the likes of Steve Austin, The Undertaker, Triple H, The Iron Sheik, and even a young Roman Reigns being cast.
