As of late, you cannot discuss an episode of WWE RAW without the name “Retribution” being added to the mix.
Retribution’s Debut On WWE
The group of mysterious hooded misfits wearing all black sweatsuits have taken over multiple WWE shows recently. Retribution hit WWE by storm earlier in August of this year.
The night of Retribution’s debut, there were several noticeable glitches throughout RAW including many power outages and surges, mics that kept fading out whenever Superstars used them. The power outages and flickering lights caused a huge commotion on the red brand. The faction ultimately was seen throwing molotov cocktails ON the Performance Center’s power generator. This forced an interruption to the night’s matches and causing fans to pay close attention to the rebel antics.
Retribution NOW
Fast-forward to this past Monday, August 31st on RAW, there were six members of the Retribution faction under the black masks. It was noted in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that the masked members of Retribution are none other than NXT’s: Kayden Carter, Dominik Dijakovic, Chelsea Green, Shane Thorne, Dio Maddin and Mia Yim.
RETRIBUTION’s antics weren’t only restricted to WWE RAW. The group showed up on SmackDown and assaulted a Development Talent in attendance. RETRIBUTION also drove Michael Cole and Corey Graves away from ringside and demolished the SmackDown ring.
During the Go-Home Show for WWE: Summerslam 2020, the group also dared to interrupt a face-off between Braun Strowman and The Fiend on the go-home show for WWE SummerSlam. The Fiend left The Monster Among Men to fend for himself before the WWE SmackDown roster ran down to the ring to make the save.
What is WWE planning for Retribution?
If you tuned in to WWE SummerSlam or WWE Payback pay-per-views, you noticed that Retribution was nowhere in sight. It was earlier reported that the group was set to interfere in the Randy Orton vs Drew McIntyre match at SummerSlam. But that didn’t happen.
Retribution has been making quite the headlines off late. The faction has made an appearance every week on Raw and SmackDown, leaving destruction in its wake. However, it seems that they will be put on a leash from now on.
However, this focus on Raw cuts off any connection Retribution has with the SmackDown Superstar. The cause of Retribution may not be lost yet even after this news.
In this way, Raw would have its own fresh content, rather than splitting the faction across different brands. It would also urge viewers to watch Monday Night Raw and look for what Retribution is going to do next.
Retribution Set To Be Un-masked
It also may have something to do with the much-awaited unmasking of Retribution. The faction has remained mysterious with their identities since their debuts. WWE fans have been able to uncover a lot of clues, but can only speculate as of now. WWE has done a good job of building the anticipation here.
The unmasking has to be done sooner rather than later, however. Fans seem to be getting tired of the Retribution raids. All the faction has done since their debut is ambush and vandalize. There needs to be more depth.
We can expect to see a lot of progress in the story-line of this mysterious faction, now that it will primarily appear on Raw. I hope the unmasking is as surprising as Roman’s return.
