Rey Mysterio could be returning to the ring earlier than expected

The WWE Universe has seen Rey Mysterio feuding with Seth Rollins for a few months now. As a part of their ongoing rivalry, Rollins has gouged out Rey’s right eye on The Horror Show at Extreme Rules.

This led to the in-ring debut of Rey Mysterio’s son Dominik Mysterio at SummerSlam. He was seeking to avenge his father against the Monday Night Messiah. But he came up short on that night.

Rey Mysterio injury update

Dominik lost his first match, but put up an excellent performance in the ring. The father and son duo teamed up at WWE Payback to beat Rollins and his disciple Murphy in a tag team match.

Unfortunately, Rey Mysterio injured himself in the contest. The initial reports said that his triceps were torn and he could be out for two months. But in the latest episode of Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer gave a new update on Rey’s injury.

Meltzer reported that Mysterio suffered only a partial triceps tear. It is not as bad as it was originally suspected to be. He is receiving treatments at the moment for quick recovery. He can be expected to be back in the ring in four to six weeks.

“It’s supposed to be… The last that I heard which would be last Wednesday or Thursday, they’re looking 4-6 weeks for Rey, it’s a partial tear, yeah.” H/T Wrestling News

Despite the injury, Rey has been appearing on WWE television regularly. He has shown up with his wife Angie and daughter Aalyah to support his son on Monday Night RAW. In last night’s episode, the Mysterio family accompanied Dominik to the ring for his match against Murphy. They all had Kendo sticks in hand.

The match ended with Dominik winning and Murphy quitting, as all four members of the Mysterio family unleashed a brutal beating on him with Kendo sticks.
