The WWE Hall of Fame class of 2023 was inducted last night, in what was a momentous occasion for the industry. The event was headlined by the legendary luchador Rey Mysterio, who was introduced by his close friend Konnan. Mysterio’s family was in attendance, including his son Dominik, with whom he will face-off against at WrestleMania 39 after months of conflict. However, Mysterio’s Hall of Fame speech was focused on the importance of his loved ones, particularly his wife, children, and late friend Eddie Guerrero, to his iconic career.
In his speech, Mysterio described how he developed a passion for wrestling at an early age, thanks to his uncle, Rey Mysterio Sr. He then reminisced about his brotherhood with Guerrero, which began during their time together in WCW and continued after they both made the move over to WWE. The most emotionally charged moment of Mysterio’s speech came when he thanked his wife, Angie, for her support and sacrifice. Despite having a successful medical career, Angie put her ambitions on hold to support Mysterio and their family while he pursued his dream of becoming a professional wrestler. Mysterio wrapped up his speech by acknowledging the fans, whom he believes made the name “Rey Mysterio” immortal.
“Last and certainly not least, I personally want to thank the WWE universe,” Mysterio declared. “I truly believe that none of this would be possible without all of you. … You guys have made the name Rey Mysterio immortal.”
Shortly after Mysterio reached the podium, his son Dominik and his Judgment Day partners made a dramatic exit from the ceremony, leaving Mysterio to focus on the positive aspects of his career for the majority of his speech. After reflecting on his career, Mysterio assured fans that he would “take care of business” against his son at WrestleMania. The father-son duo is set to face off tonight on the first night of WrestleMania 39, in what is sure to be a highly anticipated and emotionally charged event for the wrestling world.
