Rey Mysterio Reacts To Undertaker Refusing To Retire

At 46 years old, it’s safe to say that Rey Mysterio has more of his career behind him than in front. While the high flying star is enjoying his current stint with WWE, the question about his potential retirement is always looming around.

The former world champion recently had an interview with DAZN.com where he opened up about things such as his son Dominik getting into professional wrestling, winning the Royal Rumble in 2006 and more.

During the interview, the topic of Mysterio’s retirement came up again. The interviewer mentioned his new contract with the company. He asked Rey if he has set a timetable for his retirement or is he taking things year by year. Replying to it, the high flying star said that he has learned to enjoy the moments:

“I’ve learned how to enjoy the moments. With the contract being signed recently, I’m enjoying this moment right now and getting to share the ring with my son, getting to mentor him, and getting to see his growth. So that way, when I do decide to leave, I can leave comfortably, joyful (in) that I was able to share moments with my son in the ring. With that being said, I just take it like you said, day by day, year by year. Eventually, father time will let me know when my time is right. When that time comes, we’ll make sure that I’m not going to fight it.”

The former world champion then mentioned another legend who is going through the same dilemma and having trouble in staying retired in The Undertaker. Mysterio said that these are the moments that really make you think and he wants to make sure that when he leaves, he can still walk on his two feet:

“I’ve seen The Undertaker. I’ve seen other sports athletes want to keep going. I just saw the Tiger Woods documentary. You think about it. Those are moments that really make you think like, ‘I don’t want to fall in that category’. I just want to make sure that when I do leave, I can leave walking and still enjoy my life with my wife and my grandsons when they do come.”

Rey Mysterio left WWE back in 2015 after a contract scuffle and many believed that it was the end of his career with the company. However, the high flying star made a surprise return to the promotion during the 2018 Royal Rumble and since then he has signed a new contract with the company.

The Undertaker is a star who is in somewhat similar position to Rey. He has tried calling it quits and hanging his boots a number of times but the desire of a perfect retirement match has always lured the Dead Man back into the ring.
