Rey Mysterio’s WWE future revealed among interest from AEW

There has been a lot of speculation about Rey Mysterio’s WWE future recently, with reports that the former WWE Champion has been working on Raw without an official contract due to the trust between himself and Vince McMahon.

Reports also stated that Mysterio had asked for a bump in his contract after the 18-month deal expired, however McMahon was not willing to meet the demands due to the current global pandemic.

Dave Meltzer is now reporting that despite interest from other promotions including AEW and NJPW, Mysterio will be sticking with WWE:

I can’t confirm pen to paper, but Rey Mysterio is staying, as was always the betting line outcome of this, but it’s as close to official without confirmation of it being official, and obviously Dominik is a big part of that deal. AEW made an offer that equaled the WWE’s per-match offer, but the WWE offer was higher because it was for more dates. We don’t have a time frame past this new deal would be considerably longer than the previous (18 months) deal but not the five-years or longer deals that WWE has tried to get everyone on.

As Meltzer notes, Mysterio’s son Dominik is of course heavily involved with WWE right now and will be facing Seth Rollins at SummerSlam, which may have played a part in his decision to stick with the company.
