Roman Reigns ‘Breaks Character’ With Paul Heyman

WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns and John Cena were involved in a heated battle of words on this week’s edition of Friday Night SmackDown. They took back and forth jabs at each other and it has become personal leading up to their match at SummerSlam pay-per-view.

 


 

Roman Reigns and John Cena feud has taken a personal turn

It turns out they did not rehearse the promo battle, and Roman may have broken the script. Ringside News reported that Jamie Noble was the producer on this segment, but he “stayed on headsets” during that time. The creative credit goes to WWE senior writer Michael Kirschenbaum as he was the one who wrote the script. WWE Smackdown Episode ‘Removed’ By FOX?

This was an interesting segment for fans at home and for those backstage as well. A tenured member of the creative team told Ringside News: “I don’t even know if [Cena and Reigns] talked before the segment.” Roman Reigns and Paul Heyman were also not in Gorilla Position until just before they went out to confront Cena. There was a time when some were wondering “where are they?”

There was no rehearsal for that opening segment. They were told: “I don’t even know if they saw each other beforehand or if they knew what the other was going to say.” They said a lot and those reactions were genuinely organic. Cena had also namedropped former Shield member, Dean Ambrose(now Jon Moxley) and also referenced AEW-bound CM Punk. While, Reigns brought up Cena’s break up with ex-fiancee, Nikki Bella.

Reigns and Cena are set to collide at SummerSlam on August 21.
