Roman Reigns May Get New Royal Rumble Challenger

Roman Reigns is heading into the WWE Royal Rumble with what appears to be an unexpected opponent. Last week’s episode of WWE SmackDown saw Reigns force Adam Pearce become the new No. 1 Contender for the Universal Championship. Although reluctant, Pearce appears to have accepted his fate and is ready to challenge the Tribal Chief.

However, according to a report from Dave Meltzer, WWE might change Reigns’ opponent before WWE Royal Rumble. For a while now, Reigns has been in a feud with Kevin Owens. Owens has appeared to become a thorn in the side of the Universal Champion and has suffered for it.

But there may still be more for Kevin Owens in this storyline than is at first evident. Dave Meltzer reported that WWE may change the opponent back to Kevin Owens and this is just part of the storyline and not the actual match.

“It’s possible that they’ll change it back to Kevin Owens because it seems like a strange match to make; because if they do that it pretty much tells you that they literally have no ideas at all. I’m not ruling out that they’ll go back to Kevin Owens.”

While Adam Pearce seems more than ready to face Roman Reigns, WWE’s plans may actually change to include Kevin Owens in the title picture once again. Pearce has played the role of the on-screen authority figure on RAW and SmackDown over the last year. In that time, he has become a rather popular part of the weekly WWE shows, but it should be noted he has been retired for some time. It’s extremely unlikely that he will face Roman Reigns in his first match back after so much time away from the ring.
