Roman Reigns is unstoppable as the Undisputed WWE Universal Champion. He has been unbeatable and the company had to introduce another title belt just to give someone else a chance to be on top.
WWE Chief Content Officer Triple H recently announced that WWE Night of Champions will mark the return of the World Heavyweight Championship. Roman Reigns’ hold on the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship has led to this decision, and a new champion will be crowned in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia on May 27. Now, reports suggest that ‘The Tribal Chief’ is expected to walk out of SummerSlam as Champion as well. However, it was also noted that there have been talks of Seth Rollins possibly winning a title this year.
The Wrestling Blog reported the following:
“Im hearing from one of my sources the current plan as of right now of management is Roman reigns walking out of summer slam as champion, it was also mentioned that there’s been talks of potentially having Seth winning a title this year.”
It has come to light that it wasn’t always WWE’s plan for Roman to carry two titles.
Sean Sapp noted behind Fightful’s paywall that, “WWE unified title was a hastily made decision after Roman Reigns couldn’t appear at Day 1.” The decision to unify the titles resulted in Reigns having the two titles.
It was said that things were not supposed to be this way, but Roman Reigns tested positive for the virus owing to the pandemic prior to WWE Day 1 2022, and he was pulled from the show. At that time, WWE made their WrestleMania plan.
“We’ve learned that prior to WWE Day 1 2022, there were no plans to combine the WWE and Universal Championship. However, when Reigns contracted COVID and was pulled from the show, the late decision was made for Brock Lesnar to be added to the WWE Title match, win it, and then compete in a unification match at WrestleMania 38. Prior to that, there were no plans to unify the two titles. “
