The reigning ROH World Champion is having a great time ever since he signed with AEW back in 2019. He recently inked a contract extension that will keep him with the company through December 2025. He recently received a message from WWE SmackDown Women’s Champion Ronda Rousey.
Ronda Rousey congratulates Chris Jericho
In addition to his role as a performer, Jericho will take on increased responsibilities behind the scenes AEW and will now serve as a producer and creative advisor in addition to continuing as a mentor to young talent.
On her live stream, Rousey congratulated The Ocho. Here’s what she told the 8-time World Champion:
“Also, congrats Jericho. Congrats on your [AEW contract] extension. It’s great.”
In an interview with Variety, Jericho explained as to why he has chosen to stick with AEW and signed this extension.
“I guess the simple answer is ‘Why not?’” Jericho said. “Things have been going so well in the company, and I really do feel that this is my company. It’s tattooed on my heart, so to speak. I’ve been here since day one, and there’s really no reason not to be here continuing forward.”
“When AEW first started, I think basically it was Chris Jericho and a group of very talented people that might not have been as well known,” he continued. “Within three months that changed and now within three years, we’ve got at least a dozen, maybe two dozen, of our own homegrown stars that came into their own on AEW television.”
On this week’s AEW Dynamite’s Title Tuesday episode, Chris Jericho, for the first time since winning the ROH World Title, successfully defended the championship without any illegal means. After the match, Jericho took the microphone and mentioned that he wanted to take out every member of Ring of Honor, including the commentators. As The Jericho Appreciation Society grabbed the commentator, former Ring of Honor World Champion Jerry Lynn popped up and confronted Jericho. ‘The Ocho’ then dropped Lynn on the entrance ramp with a vicious Tombstone Piledriver.
