Sami Zayn directly name drops AEW on RAW

On this week’s episode of Monday Night RAW, a new segment involving Sami Zayn was introduced on the show. Sami Zayn was to sit on an “electric chair” and answer controversial questions from the WWE Universe in attendance.

The segment started off with questions like “When’s your retirement date?” and “How does it feel when Braun Strowman destroys you?” to which Zayn answered in real heel fashion. However, when a fan asked Zayn about why he hasn’t been a Universal Champion yet, Zayn stated that he can be Universal Champion anytime he wants and that he just wasn’t interested right now.

Zayn then said that the fan could ask him about anything – his love life, how good a kisser he was or…

AEW.

Yes, Zayn name-dropped All Elite Wrestling directly in this segment but nothing much came out of it. It was a bit shocking to see Zayn directly namedrop the rival promotion and it even started a live chant from the fans in attendance.

They did. Watch the segment on wwe’s YouTube channel.

My point is that WWE doesn’t mention anyone unless they are competition, like they did when they started the Billionaire Ted stuff. Of course, the whole “TNA is hiring” line from Kurt was just a funny pot shot at a stupid company.

If they did, and I don’t know if they did or not, it was probably to kayfabe us like in that scene where after a ppv Brock storms back through the curtain and cusses at Vince and throws the Universal title at him. Or, knowing Vince, he probably ok’d it and then after the fact changed his mind.

To be fair, this hardly even counts as “taking a shot”. He didn’t bury the company, or anything like that. Didn’t even seem to give an opinion either way. If anything, he encouraged fans to talk about it.

I do agree that it was scripted, though.

    Interesting

Then why did they edit it out on youtube?

For anyone who thinks Zayn didn’t get that mention approved ahead of time, I promise you he did. Remind me again, when did WWE first start taking shots at WCW? Was it when WWE was winning? Or when they were losing?

I think WWE wants AEW to be successful too. I believe they know it is best for wrestling all together.
