Shawn Michaels Reacts To AEW ‘Destroying’ NXT

Shawn Michaels has responded to WWE NXT reportedly moving to Tuesdays after being ‘destroyed’ by AEW Dynamite on Wednesdays, as an AEW executive described it. HBK sees an advantage to no longer facing AEW, with a ‘destination’ night. A top NXT star hinted at an AEW debut a few days ago.

Michaels told the New York Post, “It’s always clearly easier when your sort of destination programming, so to speak. Nothing would change certainly for us. We still try to put the best show out there that we can. Clearly, I know that’s everybody’s goal. I think it would only be fair to say everyone knows that when you are not competing against another similar show that it makes it a little bit easier. It allows people to enjoy that. And then you think about the follow from Raw the next night. So, clearly, it certainly wouldn’t hurt.”

Cody Rhodes told ESPN 690, Fightful, “We have destroyed them for over a year now in that space. Them leaving, perhaps that opens up a different viewership for us on Wednesdays. We’re not reactionary to their booking and won’t change anything we do with what they decide to do on Wednesdays.

There are a lot of smart people who work for WWE and perhaps they are planning something else, maybe it’s Wednesday Night Raw for all I know. I’m not assuming their white flag, moving to Tuesday nights, is a true white flag. I’ll wait and see. In the interim, we’ll continue to come up with new content, great stories, and make new kings and queens on our roster. If you’re ever backstage at AEW no one is talking about our competition.”
