On this week’s episode of AEW Dynamite, Shawn Spears defeated Baron Black via submission, as he made the latter tap-out to the Sharpshooter.
The Sharpshooter, of course, was popularized by The Hart Family and was one of Bret Hart’s biggest signature moves.
In the aftermath of Dynamite, Spears took to Twitter and revealed that he texted Hart and asked him for approval of using the move. ‘The Hitman’, being as humble as he is, gave the former WWE superstar his blessings and approved his request to use the submission maneuver.
Here is what Spears tweeted out:
For those commenting:
A while back, I sent a text to @BretHart asking a question.
He told me: “Go for it, it works”
Tonight as @IAmJericho mentioned, I paid tribute to a Canadian ICON by winning via the #Sharpshooter
It just makes sense. Mine now.#LoveYouBret @AEWrestling

Since signing with AEW, Shawn Spears hasn’t had much luck in the championship department and recently also suffered a first-round loss to Cody in the on-going TNT Championship Tournament.
However, the man who was formerly known as ‘The Perfect 10’, has wrestled on numerous occasions on AEW programming and currently holds wins over the likes of Shawn Dean, Billy Gunn, Justin Law, and Baron Black.
Spears has been paired with the legendary Tully Blanchard on AEW TV and is currently in search of a tag team partner. It also remains to be seen what plans AEW has in store for the former NXT sensation once things get back to normal amid the COVID-19 crisis.
