Shinksuke Nakamura apparently ‘checked out’ of WWE

Shinsuke Nakamura NJPW

Shinsuke Nakamura had a good run in NXT where he won the NXT Championship and competed in some terrific matches. However, his time on the main roster hasn’t been as good. A year ago he was headed into a major WWE Title match against AJ Styles at Wrestlemania after he won the Royal Rumble, but now he isn’t a priority anymore.

Dave Meltzer discussed this situation during Wrestling Observer Radio. When he signed with WWE, Shinsuke relocated his family to Florida. Since his family likes it there, it seems that that is the sole reason why he’s still working for the company.

“He’s not doing anything. He’s checked out. He’s just out there to… his family likes Florida. He’s out there to surf. He’s kinda on his pension now, you know what I mean?”

Nakamura is an immensely talented superstar who WWE is not using properly anymore. Perhaps they might somewhere down the line. So till then, he will tag along with Rusev for the time being and just enjoy surfing in Florida.

The language barrier that him and Asuka have are likely the biggest barrier for them right now since their promos are cringey making it hard to run a champion feud. Yes they have a strong following from their past accolades but I think WWE sees the barrier too difficult to get the other fans to get on board. Asuka’s promos are just pain to sit through but she’s appreciated for her work in Japan and the more serious/hardcore fan recognize her ability and history…. whereas the newer fans have no idea what’s going on with her and she’s just awkward

I know you’re going to say Brock doesn’t talk but he can when necessary and he has Heyman. Maybe they can put a manager for Shinsuke and Asuka but otherwise they really just come out jittering around as their thing.

I don’t doubt that at all, unfortunately guys like Taz, Raven and Rhyno and Carlito were never WWE made guys as they were from other promotions so as petty as it sounds Vince would rarely let anybody like that succeed

They’ve been wasting talent forever. Even in the 80s there were guys they would sign and do next to nothing with, notable names. There were so many names in the early-to-mid 2000s that they could/should have pushed as top-level talent, like Taz, Rhyno, Raven, Carlito, Shelton Benjamin, Mr. Kennedy, MVP, etc. etc.

WWE really need to get a grip, there’s so much wasted talent it’s unbelievable.. this isn’t exactly a shocker that people come up from NXT only to be crapped on by management and lose that momentum.

This is why I honestly believe that the product will be better long after Vince McMahon is gone (as harsh as that sounds). Look at how good NXT is, how great the original ECW was, and what AEW is starting to become… all of those products weren’t anything to do with McMahon and his bodybuilder “land of the giants” mentality. Add to the fact that he’s completely out of touch now as well it’s quite tragic. There is so much wasted talent in the WWE, and unfortunately it’s going to stay like that while Vince is around with his “handpicked” stars

In other words, he’ll get a push soon to keep him out of AEW.
