The King of Strong Style has held the WWE United States Championship for months now after winning the title at Extreme Rules back in the summer. Shinsuke Nakamura hasn’t exactly had a great run with the belt, rarely defending it, but that doesn’t mean he doesn’t have plans to make the title prestigious again.
Nakamura is considered one of the greatest IWGP Intercontinental Champions of all time. So when asked about his goals for the United States Championship by Sports Illustrated, Nakamura compared the two.
My purpose is to make the United States Title like I did the Intercontinental Championship in New Japan. I want to make the title different. I want to wrestle a lot of different kinds of wrestlers for the U.S. Title.
Nakamura went on to say that the WWE Championship is definitely high on his list, but he is currently focused on molding the United States Championship into something that other superstars covet.
