Legendary rapper Snoop Dogg is one of the OG Los Angeles Lakers celebrity fans alongside Jack Nicholson, Ice Cube, and Denzel Washington. The 51-year-old rapper has seen the franchise reach its greatest heights with Magic Johnson, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, and James Worthy.
He also supported the side during their lows in the 90s before Shaquille O’Neal and Kobe Bryant brought them back to the top. With such high status in the fan club, Snoop is the right man to have his say in the top Lakers of all time. And the man with 17 Grammy Award nominations thinks LeBron James doesn’t belong in the top-5.
Having seen the Lakers win 5 championships with Magic, 3 with Shaq and Kobe, and 2 with Kobe and Pau Gasol, Snoopy, like no other Laker fan would be happy with how they have been for more than 10 years. Seeing the Purple and Gold win just one championship in James’ era thus far, must not be doing him any good either.
Snoop Dogg picks top 5 Lakers players
In his recent appearance on The Pivot Podcast, Snoop Dogg was put in the spot to reveal his Top-5 Lakers of all time. The megastar of the rap industry chose Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Magic Johnson, Kobe Bryant, and Shaquille O’Neal in no particular order and was in a conflict in deciding whom to choose for the 5th spot.
He clearly mentioned he wanted no “new guys” because “They [LeBron James, AD, and others] ain’t done enough,” without naming anyone and finally proceeded with Wilt Chamberlain for averaging 50 points in one of his 14 years in the NBA.
While it looks like he chose the first four for helping the Lakers win multiple championships in their time with the franchise, he chose Wilt for winning just one. That year was Chamberlain’s second last year of his career where he averaged over 14 points and 19 rebounds per game.
Snoop might just be heartbroken by the fact that 38-year-old James could save his team from the embarrassment of getting swept in the recently concluded Western Conference Finals against the Nuggets.
