Cody Rhodes was one of the highlights of AEW television as he immediately made an impact on the company. He even competed in the first-ever match on AEW Dynamite against Sammy Guevara, which he won. In addition, many long-time fans of All Elite Wrestling called Cody Rhodes’s match against his brother, Dustin at AEW’s inaugural pay-per-view event back in 2019 not only one of Cody’s best but one of the company’s best in its short infancy.
It was announced that Cody and his wife Brandi Rhodes had parted with the company after working there for over three years. This was seen as a shocking move as their departures came out of the left field and many fans expected to see them involved in more storylines as well.
After a lot of speculation, Cody Rhodes finally signed a contract with WWE a couple of weeks ago. He then made his WWE return at WrestleMania 38 Night 1, where he squared off against Seth Rollins. He ended up defeating Seth Rollins as well.
Rhodes did an interview with The Ringer after his victory over Seth Rollins. Cody Rhodes then revealed who even knew he had signed another contract with WWE.
“I didn’t even tell Randy [Orton], I haven’t even seen Randy. I heard he’s a really good guy. It blows my mind. This guy threw a dynamite stick in a lobby in Mexico the first week I met him. Now, he’s a family man? What the hell are we doing? I didn’t tell anyone, I kept it very limited. Only Randy knew, my mom knew, maybe a few others.”
“My cousin works here as a timekeeper, and even he didn’t know. It was the best-kept secret in wrestling but I wanted to keep everything low-key. WrestleMania is the one time you don’t know what’s happening, and won’t know until you see it. Like when Bryan Danielson won the title at WrestleMania 30, you knew he was going to, but had to wait until the end of the night to see it.”
