Stephanie McMahon talks about Becky Lynch; reveals what WWE needs

For some years now, WWE has been claiming to try and bring in more diversity in the company. When it comes to female representation, Stephanie McMahon has been a prominent face not only in WWE but in the entire pro-wrestling industry.

In a recent interview with Digital Spy, Stephanie opened up about how WWE can always use more women, especially in the creative team. She also spoke about Becky Lynch in the conversation, and how many people were against her taking the ring name of ‘The Man’.

Stephanie McMahon on WWE female representation

Names of non-wrestling members of WWE are not publicly listed on their official website. So there is no way to know exactly how many writers, producers, and other executive personnel are female.

According to the Chief Brand Officer herself, there are not enough women in the team. But WWE is working towards making that right.

“We do not have enough. We do not have enough female writers in the writers room, we are actively working on that.”

“There is a dedicated focus to how we tell our women’s story lines in the show, but we can always be better.”

Earlier in June, Stephanie spoke about the steps WWE will be taking to fight racial injustice and show support for the Black Lives Matter campaign.

On Becky Lynch calling herself ‘The Man’

Stephanie also talked about Becky Lynch in the interview and recalled how several people were against her taking the ring name of ‘The Man’ back in 2018.

Lynch had a meteoric rise, becoming one of the participants in the first-ever all women’s main event at WrestleMania 35. Despite her success, some other Superstars questioned her choice of calling herself ‘The Man’, Stephanie revealed.

“(The Man) really was was her idea. It’s funny because some women were very against it like, ‘Why do you have to call yourself the man? Why can’t you be The Woman.'”

But Lynch did not pay much heed to the criticism.

“But she just didn’t take it, you know, too literally. The whole point was to turn that nomenclature on its ear, right, because everyone says, ‘Oh the biggest, the most successful person in the room is The Man’. Well, why can’t The Man be a woman?”

Lynch is currently expecting her first child with fellow WWE Superstar Seth Rollins and is away from the ring. Stephanie said she misses her dearly, but is very much excited for their baby on the way. She lauded Lynch as one of the biggest stars in the company’s history.

“Becky Lynch is certainly one of the biggest stars in WWE history and her legacy is cemented and I really hope to see her back.”
