The former WWE Chief Brand Officer Stephanie McMahon was recently named the interim CEO and Chairwoman after Vince McMahon stepped down from his duties. It comes after Vince got entailed in a controversial matter. The Wall Street Journal recently unveiled that WWE is investigating a secret $3 million settlement paid to a former employee of Mr. McMahon. The probe has also scooped several claims of misconduct from former employees toward The Chairman and top executive John Laurinaitis. Stephanie also sent a message after taking up the duties.It has reported that the board decided to bring in Steph though the higher-ups had reacted negatively to Stephanie’s decision.
WWE board wanted to bring in Stephanie McMahon
In the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer revealed who made the decision to put Stephanie ahead, and that Vince McMahon and Triple H did not play a role:
“Stephanie McMahon being put in power was said to be based on the decision of a Special committee, which would be the eight members of the Board of Directors that were not Nick Khan, Vince McMahon, Stephanie McMahon or Paul Levesque. It was Vince McMahon’s decision to leave but the board’s decision, not Vince’s of who to put in her place. It should be noted that of the side of the company that buried her on the way out, none of that came from the members of the Special committee but from others in the company.”
Previously, several of Stephanie McMahon’s close coworkers were let go. A large portion of the team she worked directly with was let go at that time. It was previously reported that the company had been looking for people to take on her CBO duties.
It was only last month that Stephanie had announced she would be taking a leave of absence from WWE, stepping down from her role as Chief Brand Officer, and now she has been thrust into the most powerful position in the company. Stephanie McMahon had made a shocking announcement when she let the pro-wrestling world that she is taking a hiatus.
