Strikeforce Releases a Fighter and UFC Picks Him Up, Update on UFC 102

– Phil Baroni has signed a new multi-fight deal with the UFC. Baroni will participate in the welterweight division and hasn’t fought in the UFC since UFC 51 in 2005. Baroni is 3-1 in his last four fights most recently suffering a decision loss to Joe Riggs in June.

Baroni had the following to say about returning to the UFC: “There’s nothing to celebrate,” Baroni said. “You celebrate after you win. Getting picked up isn’t (worth) celebrating. After you win, you have a celebration.”

Strikeforce released Baroni on Thursday after he went 0-2 in the promotion. Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker said that he would consider bringing Baroni back if he could put together a win streak.
