The Big Show Show cancelled by Netflix after season one – here’s why

Netflix has decided not to continue with the second season of The Big Show Show, according to a report by Deadline.

The multi-camera family sitcom starring the legendary WWE Superstar The Big Show premiered in April. It focused on the wrestler’s life post-retirement as a father of three daughters.

The synopsis of the 10-episode series read like this:

“When the teenage daughter of Big Show, a retired world-famous WWE Superstar, comes to live with him, his wife and two other daughters, he quickly becomes outnumbered and outsmarted. Despite being 7 feet tall and weighing 400 pounds, he is no longer the center of attention.”

The co-creator of the show, Jason Berger, thanked the staff, cast, crew, and the fans for a successful one-season run in a tweet.

Reason behind the cancellation of The Big Show Show

Deadline reported that the multi-camera comedy genre did not quite fit into the production model of Netflix, which relies largely on straight-to-series orders. Ashley Garcia: Genius in Love, another sitcom of same genre, was also cancelled at the same time.

However, both the shows will get one last episode each, as Netflix has ordered special Christmas airing to be released in December. But they will be stand-alone episodes and will not be a continuation of the storylines from the previous seasons.

The Superstar on his own Netflix series

The Big Show has often talked about how grateful he was for an opportunity to appear in his own show, with his own family. In an interview with the Sports Illustrated, he said it was a “blessing” that he had never envisioned.

“To get the opportunity with this Big Show Show, and still be able to interact with the fans because it’s a live audience situation, and it’s really a peak behind the curtain of the Big Show character and what it would be like with three incredible, powerhouse daughters and a spunky, rambunctious wife. I have to pinch myself all the time—I can’t believe I’m this lucky and this fortunate. I’m extremely grateful for the opportunity.”

The Big Show last appeared in the ring against Randy Orton in an Unsanctioned match on WWE RAW. His goal was to take revenge on The Viper for what he had done to Christian. But Orton ended up punting him as well.

Before that he showed up in a losing effort against Drew McIntyre, challenging for the WWE Championship title.
