The Rock Reveals Truth About Wrestler Who Dated Men

In a recent episode of his television sitcom Young Rock, The Rock acknowledged the contributions of openly gay former WWE Intercontinental Champion Pat Patterson. The episode showcased Patterson’s friendship with The Rock’s grandfather, Peter Maivia, and his work as a backstage producer providing guidance to WWE’s up-and-coming talent. Patterson is also credited with creating the Royal Rumble concept.

In the episode, The Rock revealed that Patterson initially suggested calling the match the “Random Riot” before it eventually became the “iconic Royal Rumble.” He went on to acknowledge Patterson’s impact on his own career, stating that Patterson became Vince McMahon’s right-hand man and his greatest mentor in professional wrestling. According to The Rock, Patterson was a master of the psychology of wrestling and connecting with the crowd, and he wouldn’t have become The Rock without Patterson’s vision and guidance.

“The Random Riot became the iconic Royal Rumble,” The Rock said. “Pat went on to become Vince McMahon’s right-hand man and my greatest mentor in professional wrestling. When it came to the psychology of wrestling and connecting with the crowd, Pat was the master, and I can say without a doubt that The Rock would never have become The Rock without the vision and guidance of Pat Patterson.”
