TNA Impact Wrestling Report – 11/5/14

We start off with a recap of Bobby Roode’s TNA World Title win from last week over Bobby Lashley, then we go to Kurt Angle as he introduces the new champion to the fans in attendance. Roode says that words can’t describe what this moment means to him because wrestlers dream of being World Champion, he loves pro wrestling, and holding the title means he is the best. He’s happy to share this moment with a man he’s gone back and forth with and a man he considers the best wrestler in the world, Kurt Angle, and he’s happy to be here in front of the fans. He’s proud to be the TNA World Champion and he thanks the fans, but the former champion (in his Irish guy from the Bronx hat) comes out with his entourage to address his conqueror. MVP tells Roode that he’s a sorry excuse of a competitor because Lashley is the most dominant champion in the history of TNA, but the fans cheer a guy who manipulated the system to get a title shot he didn’t deserve, in league with an unscrupulous “hero” who inserted himself as the guest referee to make sure Roode got the title. MVP asks who the cheaters really are here, and as tough as Roode thinks he is, he knows he can’t beat Lashley on the level. Lashley only won the title because he stepped in when MVP hurt his knee, so now he wants Roode to give MVP a title shot. Lashley doesn’t look happy about that and Angle points that out, then asks Roode if he’ll give MVP a title shot. Roode says he’ll do it, so MVP says that he’s going to win the TNA World Title tonight, and Lashley does not look at all happy at this development.

The tag team tournament concludes tonight, and we go backstage to Low Ki and Samoa Joe. Ki says he knew there was only one man who could ensure he wins the tournament, and that’s the X Division Champion. Joe says people didn’t think they could get along and work as a team, but the sledgehammers have arrived and the Hardy legacy will crumble tonight.

Tag Team Contender’s Tournament Finals: Matt & Jeff Hardy vs Low Ki & Samoa Joe

Jeff and Low Ki start off and it’s weird to see how Jeff, long considered tiny by WWE standards, looks like a linebacker compared to Low Ki. Jeff pounds on Low Ki and tags Matt in, and Ki is able to turn the momentum around on Matt and tag Joe in to dish out some punishment. Matt turns it back in the favor of the Hardys when Ki tags in, and they trap Ki in their half of the ring. Hardys with a lot of the usual until Ki catches Jeff with a stepover kick and tags out to Joe. Joe absolutely UNLOADS on Jeff as we go to commercial.

We’re back as Jeff hits the Whisper In The Wind on Joe and tags Matt in to clean house on Ki and hit the Side Effect for 2. Matt with a bulldog/clothesline combo on both opponents and covers Ki for 2. Ki turns it around and hangs Matt in the Tree of Woe and drills him with a top rope double stomp for 2. Ki picks Matt up and Matt hits the Twist of Fate out of nowhere, but Joe breaks the cover at 2. Joe gets Matt in the Kokina Clutch, Jeff comes off the top and hits both Matt and Joe with a Swanton, and all four men are down. Jeff and Ki are up first, Jeff drills Ki with an inverted enziguiri, and the Hardys hit Poetry In Motion on Low Ki. Jeff hits the Swanton and Matt moonsaults Low Ki for the win.

Winners: Matt & Jeff Hardy

The Hardys are now the #1 contenders to the Wolves, no real shock given the lack of other dedicated teams in the tournament.

We go backstage where Storm is again trying to win Davey Richards over and tell him that he’s there for him. Storm will give Davey one week and then he wants his answer. Storm walks off and Davey looks conflicted.

Bobby Roode is backstage and says that MVP suspended him for weeks to keep him away from the title, but since he’s been back he’s overcome every obstacle to get to his goal of the TNA World Title. He was ready to defend against Lashley, but if MVP wants to work the system and challenge him, he’s fine with that because MVP took wrestling away from him for two months. Now he’s going to prove why he’s the It Factor and more of an MVP to this company than he will ever be.

We see a video package of the history between Gunner and Sam Shaw, then we go to the ring with Shaw and Brittany. Shaw says that she helped him realize that Gunner saw him as nothing more than a charity case. Brittany says Gunner was never his friend, and Christy Hemme could never appreciate his artistic genius like she can. She starts licking his face and then they start making out and rolling around on the mat until Gunner’s music hits. Gunner says that Shaw wanted to be just like him, but it seems like we just have a couple of creepy bastards here. Shaw tells him not to call them that, it turns into a brawl, Brittany jumps on Gunner’s back, and Shaw punches Gunner in the ding ding. Shaw rams Gunner shoulder first into the ringpost, then Brittany hands him a couple of black gloves which Shaw puts on before putting Gunner out with his chokehold. He even gets his hips off the mat to put extra pressure on it, nice touch. Shaw and Brittany make out again and they leave Gunner laying in the ring and head to the back.

We see a video package hyping the upcoming debut of Mahabali Shera, a fellow from India who wants to prove that he’s worthy of competing with the best in the world. Kurt Angle talks about the sacrifice it takes to be successful in this business, and Shera says he wants to prove to Angle and everyone else that he’s worthy.

Speaking of Angle, MVP catches up with him backstage and says he showed his true colors when he stole his spot controlling TNA. Angle says MVP showed what he’s really all about too with what he did tonight, then walks off smiling.

Tommy Dreamer and Devon jump Magnus and Bram on their way to the ring to jump start our next match…

Hardcore Match: Brutus Magnus & Bram vs Tommy Dreamer & Devon

Devon and Dreamer take the fight to Magnus and Bram, send them into the ring and continue the assault, then dump them back out to the floor and keep working them over out there as well. Dreamer smashes a water bottle on Magnus’ head, but gets atomic crotched on the barricade as Devon gives Bram the water bottle treatment. Magnus and Bram double team Devon and work him over with a spare turnbuckle from under the ring, but Dreamer comes in and cracks them both with a trash can lid. Dreamer sets a chair up on the ring and is promptly drop toeholded onto the chair and really seems to have gotten whacked good. Magnus bashes Dreamer in the head with a trash can, then sits him in the chair and clotheslines him backward into the ropes. Bram hits a BAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAACK BODYDROP for 2, but Devon comes in and cleans house, bashes Bram in the head with a trash can lid, then puts the can over Bram’s ding ding and smashes it with a chair. Magnus nails Dreamer and he and Bram try to double superplex him, but Devon comes in and powerbombs the both of them, causing them to superplex Dreamer anyway. Devon is up first and he goes at it with Bram, Bram tryies to suplex Devon out of the ring through a table, but Devon blocks and snaps his neck down on the top rope, causing Bram to fall backward through the table. Magnus comes in and DRILLS Devon with a kendo stick, then gives Dreamer serveral shots. Dreamer responds by countering a leapfrom with a kick to the ding ding, then hits the DDT and covers Magnus for the win.

Winners: Tommy Dreamer & Devon

Great brawl, but I’m not sure what having two guys who aren’t full timers pinning the former World Champion does for TNA.

Gail Kim is backstage and says Havok has jumped her, taken her title, and tried to put her out of wrestling. She has a message for Havok: she’s coming for her title tonight.

Jeremy Borash invites Spud down to the ring to discuss the wild few weeks he’s had, and Spud says he doesn’t want anyone feeling sorry for him because he was forced to do a lot of things he’s not proud of. He came here and had no direction until Dixie Carter wanted him to be her Chief of Staff, and he would have done anything for Dixie and Ethan Carter III. That is, until he realized that Ethan is a complete and total wanker. He asks EC3 if a true friend would say the sight of him makes him sick, the suits he wears makes him feel repulsed, but these suits are his, he likes them, the people like them, and he’s not changing them for anyone, least of all him. EC3 may be a 1 percenter, but Spud’s proud to be a 99 percenter because EC3 is a douchebag and he doesn’t need him anymore. Borash says that he was there and Spud won British Bootcamp because he won everybody over, and the same thing seems to be happening here, so like everyone here, he’s with Spud all the way. Borash gives him a hug, but EC3 comes out with Tyrus and calls the fans a bunch of losers, and Spud has appointed himself the new leader of the losers. Ethan asks Borash how he dares to take part in this since he’s TNA’s most loyal employee and he owes everything to the Carters, just like Spud. He’ll give Spud the opportunity to apologize to him right now, but Spud has his jacket off and he’s ready to go, even after EC3 and Tyrus get in the ring and surround him. EC3 tells him again to apologize, but Spud says no, so Tyrus grabs Spud and EC3 repeats himself. Spud says he’s sorry…that EC3 is a big-nosed douchebag. Borash tries to stop EC3, so Carter smacks Borash down, prompting Spud to leap on EC3 and unleash a flurry of punches. Tyrus grabs Spud and EC3 prepares to pound his face in, but Eric Young runs out with a chair and sends EC3 and Tyrus scurrying to higher ground.

Gali attacks Havok on her way to the ring for their title match, but gets flattened yet again. Havok tries going for the hammerlock avalanche into the ringpost, but the referee stops Havok and Gail is able to slip out and fire a few shots off on Havok. Havok quickly puts her back down and just rams her headfirst into the post, then easily shuts down another comeback attempt with a big forearm shot. Havok drags Gail up the ramp by the hair, Gail breaks free and tries to boot Havok off the stage, but Havok blocks, grabs Gail, and just launches her off the ramp and onto the floor. Gail is clutching her shoulder and referees and officials come outside to check on her as we go to commercial.

We’re back and Borash informs the crowd that the officials have decided that the match is off. Gail grabs the mic and says no, this match will go on. Okay then!

Knockouts Title Match: Havok vs Gail Kim

Havok hits the hammerlock spinebuster and goes for the quick win, but Gail is out at 2. Gail avoids an elbowdrop and hits a shotgun dropkick into the corner and the charging crossbody, but Havok knocks her to the floor with one big forearm. Gail avoids a double axhandle off the apron and Havok lands on the steps, but Havok blocks a kick from the apron, picks Gail up on her shoulders electric chair style, and drops Gail face first on the steps. YIKES! Havok comes back inside and the referee counts, but Havok breaks the count at 9 and goes after Gail. She yanks Gail up and says she isn’t finished with her yet, then rolls her inside and plants her boot in Gail’s grill. Havok goes for another hammerlock slam, but Gail slips out of Havok’s grasp and gets the headscissors Kimura. Havok struggles for a second, but counters to a side suplex for 2 and then faceplants Gail. Gail is back up and fires back at Havok and hits an armbreaker, then comes off the top rope with a crossbody for 2. Havok blocks Eat DaFeet and hits the hammerlock spinebuster, but Gail kicks out at 2. Havok looks shocked and goes for a chokeslam, but Gail counters to Eat DaFeet and makes a cover. Havok barely kicks out at 2 because Gail took a few seconds to make the cover, and Gail goes back to the top, but Havok catches her coming down and this time she hits the chokeslam for the win.

Winner: Havok

Hard fought win, and Gail made Havok look great on the way out (for now at least).

Mahabali Shera is in the cafeteria and all the cool kids won’t let him sit at their tables, so he sits by himself. Manik comes in and tries to make friends with the guy, because all foreigners are apparently suckers.

Lashley is backstage packing his bags and leaving the building, and MVP is trying to get him to stay to help him out, but Lashley walks and leaves MVP looking concerned.

It’s main event time!

TNA World Title Match: Bobby Roode vs MVP

They tie up and Roode takes MVP to the corner, he breaks clean but MVP cheapshots Roode and quickly pops him over with a double underhook suplex for 2. Roode catches MVP with a back elbow, a series of kneelifts to the abdomen, and a Canadian legsweep for 2. MVP gets a thumb in Roode’s eye and clubs him with a forearm to the back of the neck, sending Roode out to the floor. MVP goes after him and DRILLS him with a running Yakuza kick. MVP rams Roode in the the barricade and then the steps and rolls him inside, but Roode escapes a series of pin attempts at 2. MVP hits Ballin’ for 2, then goes to a COPS Hold. Roode catches MVP with a spinebuster out of nowhere for 2 and goes for a superplex. MVP tries to fight him off, but Roode hits the superplex and covers for 2. MVP blocks the Perfect Necksnap and MVP gets a series of kicks and a running kneestrike for 2. Roode dodges the Driveby and rolls MVP up for 2, MVP blocks the Roode Bomb and hits a running Yakuza kick in the corner, but Roode slips out of the rolling neckbreaker thingy MVP does and hits the Roode Bomb for 2.

Winner: Bobby Roode

Great match, I liked that MVP took the fight to Roode and did it on the level instead of cheating his ass off just because he’s a heel. MVP pretty much guzzled Roode until Roode got a big flurry at the end and caught him. Lashley runs in and spears Roode into next week, then turns to MVP. MVP reaches his hand out so Lashley can help him up, but Lashley just walks off and leaves MVP on his butt in disbelief.
