Tony Khan responds to criticism over Miro’s direction in AEW

A lot of people were expecting Miro to be brought in as a monster heel when he first signed with AEW but the former WWE star has been given a completely different persona as Kip Sabian’s best man.

Many fans of the former US Champion have criticised this direction taken by the company and during a recent media call, Tony Khan responded to this criticism from fans.

The AEW President first claimed that the former champion is going to be a big star in their company and he mentioned how it’s hard for new stars to come in and claim the top spot immediately due to their ranking system:

“Miro’s going to be a big star here. It’s really hard for people to come into AEW when you have a ranking system unless they come in at the start of a new year cycle and I didn’t want to wait till January to bring Miro in.”

Khan then responded to criticism about how WWE had presented Miro as a monster heel opposed to AEW and he reminded everyone how the company had also tarnished his character later on:

“I thought he got beaten down so bad… I saw some jackass on Twitter was like, ‘This guy drove a tank at WrestleMania and now he’s doing this,’ and I was like, ‘Yeah, then he got kicked in the nuts and they treated him like sh*t for years.’ He drove a tank out five years ago, that’s not the guy I signed. The guy I signed has been abused for years and he’s being rebuilt, he’s going to be a huge star in wrestling and he is a huge star, he’s a huge name in wrestling but he wasn’t treated like it for a long time.”
