Trainer Javier Mendez Explains Koscheck’s “Crappy Fighting” At UFC 124

One of American Kickboxing Academy’s head trainers, Javier Mendez, recently gave his opinion on his student, Josh Koscheck, and his performance and errors in his welterweight championship title fight at this past weekend’s UFC 124 against current champ, Georges St. Pierre.

“Josh fought crappy,” Koscheck’s trainer explained, “he knows it. If we told him he fought great, we’d be lying. He didn’t do anything what he was supposed to do, and at the same time, Georges did.”

Mendez continued by saying, “Josh is similar to what I was like. I never did what my coaches wanted to do; I did what I wanted to do. Some people like to guide themselves, and others like people guiding them.” as he compared himself to his student.

When asked about Koscheck’s inability to do as he was told during his welterweight bout with GSP at UFC 124, Mendez finished by adding, “Let’s not discount the fact that GSP is a great fighter.”
