During this week’s episode of Raw, Vince McMahon’s influence was once again felt by the WWE universe. However, unlike the changes he made during the post-WrestleMania edition of Raw, which were widely criticized as the worst ever, McMahon’s changes were minor this time around.
Ever since the WWE-Endeavor deal was announced, McMahon has been taking a more hands-on approach to the product. This has led to several last-minute changes during Raw broadcasts, causing some concern among talent and fans alike.
However, since the disastrous post-Mania episode, McMahon has wisely backed off from WWE’s creative calls. According to the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter, McMahon once again made “minor” changes to the broadcast this week, specifically in the wording of certain promos.
It is unclear which promos were changed, but it is clear that McMahon’s influence is still being felt by the creative team. Although he has no official title with WWE’s creative department, the buck stops with the Executive Chairman. As Dave Meltzer notes in his report, “what he wants is what will happen.”
Despite this, McMahon has stated that he will not be “in the weeds” when it comes to booking. Instead, he will take an overview “on a higher level.” For the time being, the creative team led by Triple H will be “mostly in charge,” but McMahon’s influence is still being felt.
As McMahon continues to navigate the WWE-Endeavor deal and its implications for the company, it remains to be seen how much of an impact he will have on the creative direction of WWE programming. However, one thing is certain: McMahon’s legacy as one of the most influential figures in sports entertainment is secure, and his influence on WWE will be felt for many years to come.
