Meanwhile, MSNBC was the only major cable news network to see an increase in viewership during this period. They averaged 1.16 million viewers in primetime, representing a 14% increase from May 2022. CNN, on the other hand, experienced a drop in viewership, averaging 494,000 viewers, a decrease of 25%.
The ratings decline for Fox News was partially offset by a town hall event featuring former President Donald Trump, which was held in Iowa and hosted by Sean Hannity. The presence of Trump during the event resulted in a significant boost for Fox News, with the town hall bringing in 2.78 million total average viewers at 9 p.m. and 320,000 viewers in the key 25-54 age demographic.
Trump himself weighed in on Fox News’ ratings decline, calling on the network to embrace the “Make America Great Again” (MAGA) movement. He claimed that their viewership drop was due to their lack of support for him and his America-first agenda. Trump accused Fox News of being aligned with globalist interests, stating that they were pushing for other candidates like Ron DeSantis instead of supporting him. He expressed his belief that Fox News should fully embrace the MAGA movement to regain their lost viewership.
